ADULT OPEN DIVISION
Ages 14 to Adult

Class Descriptions

BRT’s Open Program ballet classes are intended for indivduals who enjoy dance movement and appreciate the demands of ballet technique. These classes continue year-round and are available on a drop-in basis.

Adult Ballet I is structured as a beginning-intermediate level and designed to incorporate those who have some knowledge of ballet, those who have had dance as a child and wish to begin again, and the first time dancers who have completed the Absolute Beginning Ballet program (see the below for details on this program).

Adult Ballet II classes are for students who are comfortable with the ballet curriculum and can move easily through the barre and center.

Stretch & Strength:  Taught and designed by Alex Ossadnik this class provides a low impact full body workout that strengthens and stretches all major muscle groups. For levels CI through Adults.

Ballet Mat:  Team taught by Stephen Legate, Jason Davis, and Michelle Davis, this class was originally intended for injured dancers but is used by anyone looking to build core strength in an artistic environment. It consists of ballet exercises adapted for non-weight bearing and is combined with Yoga and PT for a hybrid workout that will keep you fit when injured and help reach greater levels of strength. For levels CI through Adults.

BRT COVID Safety Protocols

  • Everyone entering the building must wear a mask at all times.  A properly worn mask completely covers the nose and mouth, is secured to the head, and fits snugly against the side of the face.
  • If you are not feeling well, do not come to the studio. There will be options for joining virtually or making up a class. Anyone with symptoms, close contact, or known exposure to a positive COVID-19 case must also stay home and notify BRT.
  • In order to limit the amount of traffic inside the building, we ask that inside be limited to students and staff. Parents will need to wait for your children outside the building.
  • Contactless payment is preferred. Choose a convenient monthly auto-payment plan or call us to process payment over the phone.
  • Dressing rooms will be closed. Dancers need to arrive dressed for class.
  • Dancers will keep their ballet bags and street clothes with them during class (please do NOT bring more than you need for the class).
  • Class schedule has been staggered to limit traffic inside the building. Students need to arrive no more than 10 minutes before their designated time. They must also be picked up promptly after their class finishes.
  • High contact surfaces, including but not limited to barres, equipment, doorknobs, etc., will be wiped down between classes.
  • Hand sanitizer will be used before entering the studio and upon completion of class.
  • Everyone will need to maintain six-feet physical distance while in the lobby and in the studios.
  • Dancers must bring their own water bottle. Food and gum are not permitted in the studio.
BRT Home Studio Recommendations

Please make sure your Zoom username is your real name (student or parent) and not a generic name i.e. “iPad 2”. This is for attendance and security purposes.

Attend class in an area that has enough open space to move around in. We recommend at least 6’ x 8’ and make sure there is nothing breakable nearby.

We recommend you place your device at a proper height for your instructors to see your full body. If your instructor cannot see your full body, they cannot correct you appropriately and you will not be able to progress as quickly in your classes. Before your Zoom class, check the position and angle of your device to insure it is in the best place possible. Your device should be in landscape mode (sideways).

When possible, we also recommend Screen Sharing your device to a TV, so dancers have a larger image to look at.

Internet Speed

Run an internet speed test in the room you plan to use as your at-home studio. You can do this HERE. If speeds are slow, Zoom will freeze, and dancers may have difficulty fully participating in class. Wifi extenders can be purchased to help remedy this issue.

Absolute Beginner Ballet

BRT offers eight-week sessions of Absolute Beginner Ballet classes that provide interested adults with a fun and informative introduction to proper technique. This program is developed for beginning adult dancers with no previous experience or the student who wants to refine their technique at a basic level and focuses on the basic movements and foundations of ballet technique. If you have never studied ballet but always wanted to, this is the class for you.

Once a week on Wednesdays 6:15-7:15pm, Ms. Sarah Morris guides dancers through the fundamentals of ballet, $150 for 8 Weeks. Reservation is required 1 week prior to the start of each session.

Fall ABB Session: September 22 - November 17, 2021

BRT reserves the right to cancel any class that does not have five or more paying students.
